“ALL kids. All options. All the time.” We mean it!

Sometimes when we talk to people, they hear PA Families for Education CHOICE. That last word leaves an impression, and depending on your perspective it could be positive or negative. It’s definitely a charged word in the Harrisburg Capitol halls! So that there’s less confusion, we even placed “district” on our logo alongside private, charter, and home education. ALL options are important for ALL kids.
It’s not the option that should be driving the conversation – it’s the CHILDREN.
# of children in PA – 1.7 MILLION
# in district school: 70%
# in charter school: 12%
# in private school: 14%
# in home education 4%
If parents had their choice (according to EdChoice):
district: 40%
charter: 10%
private: 36%
home education: 14%
If families moved to their true preferred option, it would not harm the education system as a whole; the teachers, administrators, and staff would naturally move to another option with the students. Some of you may think that home education wouldn’t promote jobs – but tell that to employers such as A Fuller Education or Failte Waldorf Microschool! They are teachers who have moved their expertise to the microschool sector as edupreneurs. Education wouldn’t stop, it would change based on what the children need, and what families want for them.
Our education system should not resemble the factory model from 100+ years ago, but rather be reflective of today’s climate and ingenuity.
Parents aren’t “wrong” for fighting for their children, and children aren’t “wrong” for needing something “different”. What’s wrong is that we allow others to interfere with our children’s education, and how it’s delivered.
So when we say
