Shannon
Shannon has 2 special needs children and fights extremely hard everyday to provide them with an education that they deserve. Despite an extremely busy schedule, with her son’s hockey league for autistic children, dance classes, doctor’s appointments, and trying to work with the district, we’re fortunate that she has offered to help other parents with her specialized experience.
Keemah
“I’m a democrat. I’m a diehard democrat. You’re never going to change that. So let me talk to you about my family…”
Keemah is a mom fighting for her child and there was nothing that was going to stop her. She has now turned into a volunteer for Pennsylvania Families for Education Choice.
Justice
“I have experienced challenges or obstacles during my own upbringing or education, leading me to empathize with the struggles faced by other children. I would likely want to ensure that future generations have access to the support and opportunities they need to succeed, thereby breaking cycles of difficulty and providing a brighter future for all.”
“I desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people speaks to their altruistic nature and sense of fulfillment. They likely find great joy and satisfaction in knowing that their efforts are directly impacting the lives of children, setting them on a path toward success, happiness, and a brighter future. It is my commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and highlight their dedication to the cause of education and empowerment.”
Catiana
“Hello, my name is Catiana Muñiz, I am 33 years old and I have 3 beautiful children, 5, 11 and 17 years old, they are my driving force in life.
“I am from Lancaster County. It is a pleasure for me to be part of this great group of parents who fight for the rights of our children. We are the best lawyer our children have. As I always say… The Lions don’t lose sleep over the Opinion of the Sheep. ♟️ Children who are marked as unteachable are often fighting a heroic battle for survival.”
Najimah
Najimah Roberson is a single mom to three children living in Harrisburg. Even though she has been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, it does not stop her from working to establish a 24-hour day care service in her area, forging new pathways as an education and community activist, and ensuring that her children are on the right track – academically, spiritually, and socially.
Najimah has a wealth of knowledge, insight, and perspective and isn’t afraid of, or to tell, the truth. And she fights for every child and family like they’re her own.
Cindy
“Being grandparents in today’s school world can be a challenge in itself, but more so when we need more than what the child is getting and we don’t know where to turn. We were those grandparents 4 years ago until we realized we do have lots of resources and choices. Our child went from struggling in her classes to being a confident and straight A student within the first year of changing school.”
Jen K
“I advocate for school choice because I’ve witnessed firsthand the detrimental impact that the wrong school environment can have on a child and their family. As an educator, I’ve seen countless children set up to fail, slipping through the cracks with lifelong consequences. Moreover, as a mother, I’ve observed my own son’s passion for learning diminish and his mental well-being suffer. Education can no longer be a one-size-fits-all institution. School choice empowers consumers—the parents and students—placing accountability on educational institutions to meet the unique needs of their communities.”
Colleen
Colleen is a mother of four whose children experienced home, cyber, private, and district schooling. She has been working to advance school choice in the public policy realm for the past seven years. With her youngest about to graduate high school, she will soon be an empty nester and looks forward to helping other Pennsylvania families navigate their educational options.
Jenn
Jenn is a mom of two who strongly believes families should have a choice of where they send their children to school.
“Children learn differently and some school environments do not support their needs. We must stand up for our children.”
Jessica
Jessica is a homeschooling mom of three and is passionate about creating the best living and learning environment for her children. She understands that this looks different for every family and wants to help lead you to the resources to make that happen. Enrolling her son in public school lead her to the path she is on now- when you know better you do better and there is ALWAYS more to know!
Erica
“Hello, I’m Erica. I’m passionate about supporting school choice. Since the pandemic, my daughter has attended a cyber charter school. As an advocate for empowering families with educational options, I believe in the importance of providing parents and students the freedom to choose the learning environment that best suits their needs and aspirations. Let’s work together to ensure every child can access quality education tailored to their unique journey.”
Tabby and Jim
“We must continue to work on breaking down the barriers by creating and offering quality, individualized programming for our children. Giving our children the best possible chance in life starts with truly unbounded education.”
Genevieve
“I always said I was going to start a school. REALLY. When I was 14, my struggles in school came to a head, and I was given a label: GIFTED DYSLEXIC. I felt like a walking conundrum. But, choosing a school was tough! My parents looked at local private schools, homeschooling, and even boarding schools. Nothing really fit, and I stayed at my local public school, mainly for sports and friends. Luckily for me, I was reasonably successful in school. I had an amazing mom and a few great teachers who helped flex and mold the system. That was when I realized that the one-size-fits-all school system was not fitting anyone. I determined, right then and there, as a ninth-grade student, that I was going to create something better. I was going to create another option for families when choosing a school; something that would flex, adapt, and reach students. A school system where learning differences, learning styles, strengths, weaknesses, and fundamental child development were honored. More than two decades later, God has taken me on a learning journey, guiding me to reimagine what has already been created. To modernize the past. To add in the future. To create A One-Room Schoolhouse.”
Irena
“I am a mother of four 2E (twice exceptional) children. Being gifted, my children have always been highly successful academically, however, they face challenges in other areas. Based on my experiences as a gifted student myself who went to a academically rigorous K-12 school, I have witnessed that sucess in life goes beyond academic success in school. Therefore, I looked for a school which provides balance between academic and other aspects in life for my children. In my case, I found what I look for in cyber charter schools. I am excited to help families navigating school choice to find the perfect educational options for their precious children.”
