Sharon Sedlar
Founder and President
Allegheny County
Mother of 6
School Models: District, Cyber Charter, Homeschool, Private
As a mom to six children, Sharon understands that every child is unique and special. A single education environment or offering simply does not work for every child. It’s imperative that families, as rightful lead advocates for their child, are able to choose from a vast array of options based on that precious child’s needs. Sharon knows that while district education may be perfect for some, perhaps another options such as private, charter, or homeschool may be better for others – as in her own household with two district graduates, two charter graduates, one child currently attending cyber charter, and another homeschooling.
PA Families for Education Choice was born from her own experience in the school system when she realized that parents frequently don’t know what their options are or who to reach out to when their children are experiencing difficulty. PaFEC was created so that a safe place existed for those families to find relief, refuge, and resolve for their child.
When not working to help families in navigating their child’s educational journey, Sharon loves to spend time with her family, cheer on her daughter’s college volleyball team, play with her many household pets, volunteer at her local horse barn or church with her family, or garden in the yard.

Sara Walker
Executive Assistant and Events Coordinator
Bucks County
Mother of 3
School Model: Homeschool
From attending public school as a student, to teaching in private schools and university settings, to homeschooling her children, Sara’s academic background spans across multiple education models. As a mother to three school aged children—a daughter and twin sons, one of whom has special needs—she has seen first-hand how preferred learning methods can vary even within a family unit. This journey led her to found Education Collaboration Network with the mission to create an integrative learning atmosphere where learners of all abilities can reach their highest potential. Sara believes that children should be given the flexibility to learn in a way that emphasizes their strengths, and that parents should be supported in the process of making informed decisions for their children. She values the power of community and appreciates the importance of families coming together to create the experiences they want for their children.

Jorja Sedlar
Webmaster and Social Media Specialist
Allegheny County
College Student
School Models: Public, Cyber Charter, Private
Throughout her educational journey, Jorja has benefitted from a variety of schooling options. Cyber schooling allowed her to dual-enroll in college courses while still in high school, giving her a head start on her college career. It also provided access to a wider range of electives that weren’t available at her local public school. Her private college, with its smaller, community-focused environment, has offered a personalized, close-knit academic experience. Meanwhile, public schooling provided valuable social and athletic opportunities. While Jorja preferred the opportunities in public schooling, she recognizes the unique benefits of each educational approach and appreciates the importance of offering diverse options to meet the varying needs of every child.

Jennifer Kempin
Edupreneur Specialist
Mother of 1
School Model: Microschool
I advocate for school choice because I’ve witnessed firsthand the detrimental impact that the wrong school environment can have on a child and their family. As an educator, I’ve seen countless children set up to fail, slipping through the cracks with lifelong consequences. Moreover, as a mother, I’ve observed my own son’s passion for learning diminish and his mental well-being suffer. Education can no longer be a one-size-fits-all institution. School choice empowers consumers—the parents and students—placing accountability on educational institutions to meet the unique needs of their communities.
